Piers Nicholson, the designer, has a long history in sundial design. Two of his public sundials are in central London, the Tylers and Bricklayers Millennium sundial on Paul's Walk near the Millennium Bridge, and the Queens Walk Sundial, between City Hall and Tower Bridge.

The Millennium polar sundial near the Millennium Bridge in London, was installed in 1999. In 2005, he acquired a very small flat in Bouverie Street, and this sparked the thought that the blank wall next to it could be used for an east-facing sundial which could also mark the long newspaper heritage of Fleet Street. This heritage has now almost vanished. The Queens Walk sundial between City Hall and Tower Bridge was installed in 2015

He was also responsible for the delineation of the sundial in Buncrana, Co. Donegal, Ireland,(picture, left) and for the design and building of the Sustrans sundial on the Witham Cycle path in Lincoln in 1996.
